- LÚCIA LUZ ARTIST ART WHO I AM Lúcia Luz, born on November 23, 1965, in Maceira-Liz, Portugal, is an influential figure in civil society, especially due to the extraordinary and remarkable work she has done over the decades at the Portuguese Association of Cerebral Palsy (APPC-Leiria), where she serves as the Director and President of the Leiria branch. We have become accustomed to seeing and interacting with this woman in an institutional environment, but even more often, we have had the privilege of crossing paths with her through various initiatives she has supported, led, or joined over the years. THE ART Recently, we discovered another remarkable talent of Lúcia Luz: ART. The pandemic and the war have exposed, more viscerally than ever, the fragilities of the human condition, the dichotomies between “good” and “evil,” and the perspectives of opposing sides, each analyzing what is “right” and “wrong” based on their position in the field. There are many instances throughout Lúcia Luz life that prove she is a woman of strength. Her “fight” has always been for the well-being of others, improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable and dependent individuals, showing admirable altruism and resilience, and serving as an inspiring and brilliant example to many. THE ESCAPE However, let’s not forget that Lúcia Luz, although she may appear to be a Superwoman (and at times, she truly is), is not immune to the hardships of this new world filled with uncertainties, threats, and dark clouds on the horizon. It was in artistic creation that Lúcia Luz recently found her point of escape, her bubble, her refuge, where she embraces and finds solace. However, do not think her work is formless. On the contrary, some of her creations are unsettling, sometimes deliberately provocative, giving rise to multiple interpretations, where there is even a subtle opening for female liberation and an indelible sensual and erotic undertone. With a surprising ability to reorganize and transform pre-existing objects, Lúcia Luz, like Marcel Duchamp with his concept of “Ready-Made,” presents us with pieces of art made from everyday objects, transforming them into new objects that, consequently, lend themselves to a renewed and unexpected critical analysis. A self-taught artist in this field, Lúcia Luz uses her intuition and sharp eye,her “surgical gaze”, to mold, paint, repurpose, and breathe new life into a set of “dead objects” that come alive in her hands. Giving life has always been a constant mission for this being of Light that is Lúcia Luz THE SOLIDARITY JOURNEY – THE EXHIBITIONS – Lúcia Luz officially debuted as an artist at the Madrid Biennale “Feria de Arte Contemporáneo artist360” in 2024, where she exhibited works from her collection “The Secret Garden 2021/2024.” – Her artistic work gained international recognition when she received an Artistic Merit Certificate at the “Luxembourg Art Prize 2022,” awarded by the museum during her participation in the international selection on December 1, 2022. – Lúcia Luz organized several collective exhibitions with artists (painters and sculptors) to support charitable causes in the Leiria district, Portugal: she held the first contemporary art collective exhibition in 2003, and more recently in 2022, where she participated with four works from her collection “The Secret Garden 2021/2024” at the Teatro José Lúcio da Silva in Leiria. – In 2023 and 2024, Lúcia Luz continued her efforts by organizing charity events in Leiria, where she participated with two more works from the same collection. – In November 2024, she participated in an international exhibition with 130 artists from 25 countries, curated by Baroness Jiselda Salbu, at Tony Vitorino Gallery in Vieira de Leiria, with two sculptures, one of which won the bronze medal. – Lúcia Luz is a member of Artcom Expo – International Association of Artists, based in Norway. She has participated in various international and virtual exhibitions promoted by the association. – Lúcia Luz has sold works in Portugal and Switzerland. Her first sold works were acquired by the Junta de Freguesias dos Marrazes and are displayed in the new building of the Junta since its inauguration. – In addition to her artistic practice, Lúcia Luz has participated in various workshops, training programs, and lectures. – As a humanitarian and artist, Lúcia Luz continues to inspire, reminding us of the power of creativity and social responsibility intertwined. – Part of the proceeds from the sale of her works go to charitable causes under the “Make a Smile – Artists of the World for a Charitable Cause” project. A Arte
