Artist Sculptural:Esperança Matos, Portugal
She was born in Leiria – Portugal in 1965.
She is already known to a wide audience for the talent and creativity revealed in the countless works. She has performed throughout the country and abroad, and is a revelation in sculpture in Portugal.
Disciple of the famous master Alfredo Ribeiro in the 80’s of the 20th century, who inspired her taste and dedication to the art of carving the stone, Esperança Matos also presents in his curriculum the study of the History of Art under
the coordination of Pedro Redal, current Director of the famous Monastery of Batalha, completed with internships in Chateauroux, in the Loire Valley in France.
Among his many works, the most important are those for the IPPAR (Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage), namely the restoration of the cloister of D. João I, the placement of a griffin (mixed lion eagle) in the Monastery of Batalha and the restoration of some pieces in the Monastery of Alcobaça, which contribute to the conservation of the precious Portuguese architectural heritage.
She also carried out complete works, in the field of stone, for some new Churches throughout the country.
Recently she has been dedicated to the creation of free themes, combining different types of stone with other materials, such as iron and resins, that gave new forms to their works and valorized their themes, thus amplifying the receptivity of its target ”.
In this context, she executed, on demand, works for private individuals and some public organizations in Portugal, with a reference here to her first solo exhibition, dedicated to free themes, that took place at the Cineteatro of Pombalin 2004.
Between 2005 and 2012, she held several exhibitions from north to south of the country, namely Vila do Conde, Porto (in the. MGlass), Charneca da Caparica (Herdade da Aroeira), Ericeira (Galeira de Arte) and Lisbon (Order of Physicians).
The replica of the Pelourinho de Águeda de Cima (2006), a tombstone for the Jardim José do Canto in Ponta Delgada (2008), the restoration of the Pórtico and the facade of the former Convent of Celas in Coimbra (2010), the restoration of a grave in the region of Paris (2011) and a bronze bust for the Municipality of Coimbra (2012) are works that, due to the appreciation expressed by the general public and professional colleagues, deserve a prominent placein the vast career of the sculptor.
She also held several sculpture exhibitions in various parts of the country between the years 2012 and 2018.
In 2016 she participated in its first Symposium of International Sculpture of Sprimont in Belgium, where the realized sculpture was sold. In 2017 she returned to participate.
During the last year, also participated in the Symposium of Sculpture in the parish of Maceira (Leiria – Portugal). In 2018, she participated in an exhibition of sculpture and painting in Friborg (Switzerland) where she was awarded the gold medal, corresponding to the first place.
He has participated in all virtual exhibitions from 2020 to 2025 Artcom Expo.
He has participated in several in-person exhibitions in Paris, Dubai, Vienna, Switzerland, Rome, London, Scotland, etc.
He participated in the 4th Edition of the Book Artits Across Continents, and has been a member of Artcom Expo since 2017.

Artista Escultórica: Esperança Matos, Portugal Nasceu em Leiria – Portugal em 1965. Já é conhecida de um vasto público pelo talento e criatividade revelados nas inúmeras obras. Atuou por todo o país e no estrangeiro, sendo uma revelação da escultura em Portugal. Discípula do famoso mestre Alfredo Ribeiro nos anos 80 do século XX, que lhe inspirou o gosto e a dedicação à arte de esculpir a pedra, Esperança Matos apresenta ainda no seu currículo o estudo da História da Arte sob a coordenação de Pedro Redal, atual Diretor do famoso Mosteiro da Batalha, completado com estágios em Chateauroux, no Vale do Loire em França. Entre as suas muitas obras, destacam-se as que foram realizadas para o IPPAR (Instituto Português do Património Arquitectónico), nomeadamente o restauro do claustro de D. João I, a colocação de um grifo (águia-leão mista) no Mosteiro da Batalha e o restauro de algumas peças no Mosteiro de Alcobaça, que contribuem para a conservação do precioso património arquitectónico português. Realizou também obras integrais, no domínio da pedra, para algumas Igrejas novas por todo o país. Recentemente tem-se dedicado à criação de temas livres, combinando diferentes tipos de pedra com outros materiais, como o ferro e as resinas, que deram novas formas às suas obras e valorizaram os seus temas, amplificando assim a recetividade do seu público-alvo”. Neste contexto, executou, por encomenda, trabalhos para particulares e alguns organismos públicos em Portugal, com referência aqui à sua primeira exposição individual, dedicada a temas livres, que teve lugar no Cineteatro Pombalino em 2004. Entre 2005 e 2012, realizou diversas exposições de norte a sul do país, nomeadamente Vila do Conde, Porto (na MGlass), Charneca da Caparica (Herdade da Aroeira), Ericeira (Galeira de Arte) e Lisboa (Ordem dos Médicos). A réplica do Pelourinho de Águeda de Cima (2006), uma lápide para o Jardim José do Canto em Ponta Delgada (2008), o restauro do Pórtico e da fachada do antigo Convento de Celas em Coimbra (2010), o restauro de uma sepultura na região de Paris (2011) e um busto em bronze para a Câmara Municipal de Coimbra (2012) são obras que, pela apreciação manifestada pelo público em geral e pelos colegas de profissão, merecem um lugar de destaque na vasta carreira da escultora. Realizou ainda diversas exposições de escultura em vários pontos do país entre os anos de 2012 e 2018. Em 2016 participou no seu primeiro Simpósio Internacional de Escultura de Sprimont na Bélgica, onde a escultura realizada foi vendida. Em 2017 voltou a participar. Durante o último ano, participou também no Simpósio de Escultura na freguesia de Maceira (Leiria – Portugal). Em 2018, participou de uma exposição de escultura e pintura em Friburgo (Suíça) onde foi premiada com a medalha de ouro, correspondente ao primeiro lugar. Participou de todas as exposições virtuais de 2020 a 2025 da Artcom Expo. Participou de várias exposições presenciais em Paris, Dubai, Viena, Suíça, Roma, Londres, Escócia, etc. Participou da 4ª Edição do Livro Artits Across Continents, e é membro da Artcom Expo desde 2017.
